About the Artifacts
LENALE Ndem Fondom has over 2800 pieces of artifacts which comprises;masks, sculptures,ancestral ritual,sacred society,etc. These pioneers African artifacts represent the form and pleasant feelings of LENALE NDEM community in Melong.The form was attributed to the design and symbolic relation of both the living and the death which in many cases during the yearly festivals the people of LENALE NDEM demonstrate as attachment to theier ancestral roots
The Symbol and the usage of these traditional artifacts at LENALE NDEM constitute a unique code that regulates life and rhytms of the people of LENALE NDEM traditional society, such as;(fertility rituals, initiation, purification, justice,communication,justice,communication,cry dies, ancestral rituals,etc). This artifact proposes a code of conducts that binds LENLE NDEM communityto obey and regulate their life style.
The historic artifacts found in LENALE NDEM Fondom are one of the biggest collections in Africa.Most of these collection are advance stage of deterioration due to pest attacked,poor weather and hygrometric conditions,lack of appropriate equipment,lackof permanent professionals training in the Palace and ancestral beliefs.The govement inaugurated a UNESCO Club there and it is today one of the biggest in the country.In addition to the artfacts at the palace there exist a big commercial Market that receives over 10000 visistors dailys; be they from Melong community,travallers from West,North West,Parts of South West and Mbanga and Douala from Littoral.Tourists also come in to enjoy themselves in the market.
